The above lists are maintained jointly by The R&A and the United States Golf Association (USGA). Any post-1998 drivers which do not appear on either of these Lists should not automatically be assumed to be either conforming or non-conforming. Such drivers may not have been submitted to The R&A or the USGA for a ruling or they may have been ruled non-conforming for another reason. In the event of any doubt over the conformance status of a club not included on either of these Lists, please contact The R&A.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Since the beginning of 2005, The R&A has applied the Driving Club Condition at all of its Championships and international matches, including all of its Amateur Championships. Some other national golf unions have decided to do the same and so, between now and 2008, players should be sure to check the Conditions of Competition of each event entered, including qualifying events.
If a Committee has decided to restrict the use of driving clubs, the Driving Club Condition of Competition should be clearly stated in the Entry Form and the Conditions of the Competition. The following wording is recommended:
"Driving Clubs
The driver the player carries must have a clubhead, identified by model and loft, that is named on the current List of Conforming Driver Heads issued by R&A Rules Limited. Note: Any individual driver on the List, if tested on pendulum apparatus approved by R&A Rules Limited, must not have a characteristic time greater than 257 microseconds. Penalty for Breach of Condition: Disqualification"
